to...Fax from Windows 95
Prerequisites:
Windows 95 and a Fax/Modem installed
Before you start:
Ensure that Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Fax are installed. Click on the START
button, choose SETTINGS and click CONTROL PANEL. Double-click on ADD/REMOVE
PROGRAMS, then select the tab WINDOWS SETUP. Scroll down the list of Components and
make sure that MICROSOFT EXCHANGE and MICROSOFT FAX are checked. (If you do not use
Microsoft Mail for sending and receiving email, then: Highlight MICROSOFT EXCHANGE
and click on the DETAILS button. Uncheck MICROSOFT MAIL SERVICES, then click on the
OK button.) Click OK to install the new components.
Configure the Fax software:
NOTE: If you have already setup Microsoft Exchange or MS Mail you may already
have some of the following steps already completed.
- From the Control Panel, double-click on
the MAIL AND FAX icon.
- On the General tab of Microsoft Exchange
Profiles, click the ADD button.
- Check MICROSOFT FAX. You do not have
to check MICROSOFT MAIL unless you use MS Mail to send and receive email. Click on
the NEXT button.
- Select the modem you'd like to use.
Click on the NEXT button.
- Select whether you'd like to receive
incoming faxes. If you want the modem to answer to allow incoming faxes, click on
YES and choose the number of rings that the modem will answer on. Otherwise, click
on NO. Click on the NEXT button.
- Personal Address Book - Click on the NEXT
button to accept the default path.
- Persona Folders - Click on the NEXT button
to accept the default path.
- Enter your name as you'd like it to appear
on a fax and then enter the phone number that is attached to your modem. Click on
the NEXT button.
- Click on DO NOT ADD INBOX TO THE STARTUP
GROUP. Only choose ADD INBOX TO THE STARTUP GROUP if you have a constant need to
receive faxes, otherwise you can start the Fax software manually when you need it.
Click on the CLOSE button.
Send a Fax:
- There are several ways to compose a new
fax:
- From the Inbox of Exchange, you can choose
NEW FAX from the COMPOSE menu.
- From the Desktop, click on the START
button. Go to PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> FAX and click on COMPOSE NEW FAX.
- From Windows Explorer or My Computer,
right-click on a file and choose SEND TO -> FAX RECIPIENT.
- From your favorite program, choose to
print to MICROSOFT FAX. Once the document begins the printing process, the fax
software will start.
- The above options should start the New Fax
Wizard. If you need to change how the fax number will be dialed, click on the
DIALING PROPERTIES button. Otherwise, click on the NEXT button.
- Type in the fax recipient's name and
destination phone number and click on the ADD TO LIST button. Repeat for each fax
recipient. (NOTE: You can save the fax recipients in your personal address
book for future reference. Click on the ADDRESS BOOK button. Select the names
from the right-hand pane and click ADD TO:. Click the OK button.) Click the OK
button.
- Click on the NEXT button.
- Select the type of cover page you'd like
to send or choose NO to skip sending the cover page. Click on the NEXT button.
(NOTE: If you'd like to create your own cover page: Click on the START
button. Go to PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> FAX -> COVER PAGE EDITOR)
- Fill in the SUBJECT and NOTE section and
click on the NEXT button. This will send the fax immediately. (NOTE: To
schedule a time to send the fax: Double-click the INBOX icon on your Desktop.
Click on the TOOLS menu, select MICROSOFT FAX TOOLS and choose OPTIONS.)
Receive a Fax:
If you setup the fax software to answer incoming calls, then you're all set!
Just double-click on the INBOX icon on your Desktop to start Exchange. It
will then wait for incoming calls. |
